bopsides first release for 2016 comes from label owner tadd mullinix, releasing under his birth name for the first time since 2002s panes on ghostly international. this album is comprised of 3 long form experimental electro-acoustic compositions, 2 of which clock in around the 15 minute mark, and another clocking in around 9 minutes, taking you fully into the imagination of an artist who is constantly experimenting and redefining the sonic landscape. recorded on a variety of equipment and instruments, these 3 recordings capture a human side and sense of playfulness, while at the same time taking you into the heart of darkness.

the third release of the obscure cuts series, curated by the italian disco pioneer beppe loda, represents the electronic dance movement that formed in the late 70s, early 80s in italy. it features a few obscure productions that were inspired by giorgio moroder and other european electronic music of the time.

all good things take time, aussteiger said once. and indeed, it took a serious amount of time to get everything set for what soon will be known as dub disco s first release! we’ve been digging deep inside his tune collection. not only to make sure that the first three-tracker is a belter, but that it also showcases exactly the kind of musical approach we wanted as our personal imprint: to hell with a boring and homogeneous release that only represents one genre! we were looking for something that stands for itself, something that tells a story, something that is representative for what the artist stands for in a musical sense. and after a tedious quest, we carefully curated something we think is dope! kicking off the number one is a track disclosing the joint forces of berlin-based collective of musicians los wawis and aussteiger s capabilities as a remixer. here appears a psychedelic version of the track, which is carried by gentle guitars, a dubby bassline as well as the funky-trippy synthesizers that usher a tropical vibe onto the dancefloors. the starter on the flip is entitled “heimat” and comes around as a melancholic interpretation of aussteiger’s time in exile, a period that enabled him to craft his very own style. there is not much to say about this bomb that the ear doesn t catch instantly: this one is an honest earworm, with it s irresistibly arranged horns and a pervasive and driving bassline. to finish everything off, we went for a nasty banger, that carefully blends different aspects of the raving side of dance music. the electrifying broken beat and it’s haunting bassline are blended with an intense influence of acid.

fifty first recordings was created in 1994 out of a small but very productive studio in london called state 51 using the down time and the very talented engineers who had been brought together for state 51 s existing clients. state 51 was the go to studio for the likes of x-press 2, sharp, amalgamation of soundz. the engineers we worked with included mark woolford, james brown, james reynolds & mark yardley. fifty first recordings soon found a name for itself and was very quickly at the forefront of the new generation of uk garage music. we produced and released music in the 90s, for over 7 years, with the likes of tuff jam etc. and later went to develop other imprints such as konnect / test press / unda vybe / spread love / tick etc., some in partnership with producers and managed artists.

fabrizio martina, the man behind jolly mare, is a champion turntablist, with a master degree in mechanical engineering and a phd in vibration dynamics under his belt. he s currently a full time producer and dj, taking part in festivals across europe from sonar to harvey s discotheque stage at bestival. a graduate of red bull music academy in new york, he has opened acts from masters at work to roy ayers, worked with the likes of soul clap and thundercat, and has already been featured in the likes of pitchfork, mixmag and okayplayer with his dream-like brand of cosmic disco and house.

guitarist rolando bruno hails from buenos aires and got his start playing a raw brand of garage and punk with his band los peyotes. a few years back he took a step into the not-so-distant world of afro-peruvian psicodelico that s had a recent renaissance throughout south america. what made his early forays into a more tropical branch of fuzz so unique was his accompanying band-or lack thereof. armed with an electric guitar and self-produced and recorded backing tracks, rolando bruno and his orquesta midi jet-setted across europe and japan as a mad scientist one-man band, laying down a relentless style of chicha classica gone loopy that earned him several tours and a full-length album with the swiss imprint, voodoo rhythm. originally recorded in 2011 and now remastered and presented by names you can trust on vinyl for the first time, these two tracks are a glimpse into rolandos prolific electric madness and a lysergic-laced pointer towards things to come from the talented six-stringer.

a multi-instrumentalist, robert was trained in saxophone starting at age 10, before moving onto a fender telecaster after high school. after being exposed to southern california rave culture in the late 90s, he moved onto djing and collecting records. by the time he planted his roots in san francisco in 2005,robert had built an impressive analog synth-based studio, which also serves as the creative hub for his riveting live performances.

the true techno dream team of dubfire & oliver huntemann revisit their elements project from a few years ago with a new series of killer remixes, ahead of a retrospective album coming later in the year. terra - originally released in 2011, did all sorts of damage to dance-floors across the globe. now, its all set to do it again thanks to this joseph capriati remix. the italian techno headliner has grown into a major force on the scene in recent years, and here delivers a signature slice of muscular, driving techno - taut, dramatic and devastating. paired with a remix of the now seminal feugo julien jeweils remix also hits the spot - the track received a 2016 overhaul with some of jeweils signature flair. the frenchman has been a constant figure on the top of various charts and line ups for some time, and its easy to see why - fuego is stripped back machine funk primed for big systems and even bigger moments.

gouru is launching its own label, submersive, with an ep from brendon moeller aka. echologist, including a remix from french duo hbtvsk (voiski & heartbeat).in 2014, to celebrate the 4th birthday of the webzine gouru, brendon moeller and hbtvsk were invited to play at la machine du moulin rouge (paris). following a car accident on his way to the airport of new york, brendon was unable to appear and play. to make up for this unfortunate incident, gouru offered brendon the inauguration of its new label submersive, and invited heartbeat & voiski aka hbtvsk, the duo he was supposed to share the stage with, to remix one track. 2 years later, the first ep of the label gathers all 3 artists who were not able to share the decks on stage, on the same record. as brendon himself says , “all good things take time” and instead of evoking the nostalgy of a party that did not happen, the record opens the doors of the imagination and takes us to a powerful collaboration between 2 artists’ generations, thereby showing us the techno scene at its best.zur opens the ball and sets the tone of the ep, a dub and progressive rise, based on a cyclic structure, punctuated by a random reverb. tension is maintained throughout and finally leaves room to filth, whose rhythm is faster, unrestrained, yet keeps an air of suspense and unpredictability - the perfect soundtrack for an exhausting race. looking for trouble plays on a more hypnotic side. with a dark yet electrifying atmosphere, rhythms are exalted by a strident and piercing melody, evolving alongside uncontrollable sounds, throwing us straight into a cosmic trip. faithful to the spirit of the ep, the filth remix delivered by hbtvsk is a perfect exercise of style. without denaturing the original track, the remix revisits it. its’ heavy, powerful mechanism is, at the same time, accurate and sharpened. certain parts of the original track are easily recognizable, which finally get lost in the subtle gearwheel of an anthem tinted by noise.

laate is the new project of clayton guifford (unrelated / fragil). for this second release, we are very glad to welcome - the black tone - (rawthencity / appian).- circadian attraction e<p - is just as ethereal as abyssal tone records, where nagging mpc s swing and reverberation s effects are placing great emphasis on minimalist compositions, strictly dedicated to the dancefloor.on a side: - circadian attraction ep - is backed by a dynamic rhythm with analog tones. a meticulous architecture temple where time stop. a techno recital of limpid beauty gliding on a groovy bassline that will make every soundsystem whirr.on b1: - aquatic redox - is a plunging us into deep submarine daydreams. a digital bath with salty taste and hypnotic dampness. everything is a quiet, question & answers between the different elements are bouncing over and over in the atmosphere, constantly captivating the attention. a perfect balance between strength and subtlety. finally on b2, - aquatic redox - s remix is released by the famous producer: janeret (rutilance /aku). after an -haute-couture- intro, slightly breaked, we find in this remix the galactic synths typical of the talented young parisian’s repertoire. clear, precise and extremely mastered, this rework put everyone in agreement on the dancefloor.

hot off a couple of 12” from topher horn, rocksteady disco follows up with its first compilation featuring a heap of heavily sampled originals from more well-known editors. pontchartrain leads the release off with a summer-inspired aural prozac number, just in time for this june release. next up is notorious detroit editor lafleur, busting out this original milky-smooth detroit boogie house production. a slight little rearrangement from rocksteady disco label boss peter croce makes this one a bit smoother for the djs. lyon, france’s g2s kicks off the flip with a big-bottomed stomper reminiscent of some mcde ‘raw cuts’. pontchartrain book-ends this release with a track that puts the ‘rocksteady’ in rocksteady disco, with heavy analog-meets-electro drum programming and complete with pontchartrain on vocoder duties. hand numbered edition of 500 copies with dl code.

following on from last years exceptional ‘obsession ep’ from art crime is a budding young talent by the name of will lister. originally from lyme regis, will moved up to london to attend goldsmiths university and in his spare time he helps us out behind the counter here at the shop. when he’s not here at the shop you can also hear him playing records on his balamii radio show or his monthly club night, ‘the aten’. ‘the phantom ep’ is his production debut and we’re extremely happy to be putting it out on our main imprint. the title track opens up the ep with heavily reverbed pads, echoed claps, crunchy percussion and repetitive synth stabs that all work together to create spaced-out atmosphere that’s full of twist and turns. flipping over to the b-side, ‘after the light’ picks up the pace with a driving high-hat rhythm and full-bodied kicks that underpin warm piano keys and smooth synth lines. ‘agency’ closes proceedings by turning up the intensity to full with a masterclass in building tension.
